The RISA BRIInG Project has made significant progress closing out its second phase, marked by a two-day student consultancy training session held from March 7-8, 2025 to support rural businesses in placing their innovative products on the market. This phase focuses on empowering students to market a range of products including palm oil, yoghurt, egg powder, smoked catfish, pineapple juice, cereal mix, and tomato paste developed through training provided to rural entrepreneurs as part of the RISA BRIInG Project which seeks to bridge the industry - academia/research gap.
The training kicked off with a warm welcome from Ms. Sylvia, Programs Lead, and Nila, a Project Assistant. Mr. Selorm, (portfolio) introduced the GoGiveTime website, which will be used to track the students’ progress in their volunteering roles.

In the course of the session, the Project Director made a surprise visit to encourage participants to take full advantage of this opportunity. He highlighted how the program would sharpen their communication and negotiation skills, making them even more competitive in the workplace. Students were particularly inspired when they learned that this initiative was also about giving back to society. Drawing a powerful connection to the past, the Project Director shared the story of how cocoa farmers contributed their proceeds to the construction of the University of Ghana’s Akuafo Hall. This reminder of the importance of learning and service left participants even more motivated to apply their skills for the betterment of their communities.

The main session was led by Mr. Maclean from the Pan African Business Developers, who guided students in understanding their roles as consultants. The session began on an interactive note, with students introducing themselves and mentioning the towns whose products they would be promoting. Mr. Maclean's insights helped them grasp essential skills, such as:
1. Quickly understanding the features and benefits of new products.
2. Applying basic marketing principles effectively.
3. Conducting fundamental marketing research.
4. Crafting and delivering compelling product pitches.
5. Closing sales and managing contracts efficiently.
6. Monitoring and reporting progress on their marketing efforts.
One of the most impactful parts of the training was a session dedicated to educating students on preventing sexual exploitation, abuse, and sexual harassment; reinforcing a commitment to creating a safe and respectful environment for all.

With this comprehensive training, the students are now set to hit the field by mid-March, reaching out to potential customers and closing sales. Armed with new skills and a deeper appreciation for the impact of their work, these budding consultants are ready to contribute to the success of the RISA BRIInG Project and the communities they serve.
