UGBS Innovation and Incubation Hub partners with JICA and TranSoniCa Company Limited

The University of Ghana Business School Innovation and Incubation Hub partnered with JICA and TranSoniCa Co. Ltd. to host TranSoniCa Synergy 360 on October 31st at the Cedi Conference Hall, University of Ghana main campus. The event highlighted collaborative opportunities between Japanese and Ghanaian companies through a business networking initiative with CR-SIS (Japan).

The summit provided a unique platform for University of Ghana students to showcase their innovative business ideas to Japanese business professionals, fostering cross-cultural and entrepreneurial dialogue.

During the event, the Ghana Venture Capital Trust Fund was encouraged to deepen its engagement with entrepreneurs to ensure the sustainability of their businesses. Professor Daniel Sarpong, former Dean of the School of Agriculture, emphasized that this engagement is crucial for job creation.

Prof. Sarpong advocated for increased government investment in SMEs, highlighting their role in enabling individuals to develop creative solutions. He noted, “Years ago, venture capital funds were established but no longer seem functional. Capital needs to be made available to young entrepreneurs. They may struggle initially, but in the long run, they will gain valuable experience.”

The event also featured calls for the government to provide scholarships to students in the entrepreneurial space, further supporting the development of Ghana’s innovation ecosystem.

Three student groups that pitched their ideas received awards from TranSonica Company Limited and opportunities for future collaborations and support.

The event concluded positively, allowing many Ghanaian business professionals to network with their Japanese counterparts.
